A caring community steps up

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — The nearly $2.1 million raised and pledged for the United Way of Norman campaign will go a long way toward helping the social and human service agencies and programs that make up the fabric of Norman.

The United Way funds 41 programs at 27 human and social service agencies. Money raised in Norman stays in Norman. Some commuters proudly designate Norman on their Oklahoma City campaign cards.

Campaign chairs Tom Cooper and Cindy Nashert announced the $2,093,404 total at Friday’s victory luncheon. It topped the goal by about $40,000.

Agencies and programs rely on their donors for the heavy lifting but many count on the United Way allocations to keep the lights on every month. It’s a steady revenue stream that makes a difference for them every month.

It’s a testament that even in tough economic times, the community can step forward and help those in need.
