Those free holiday dinners

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — The free Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners held in Norman and Oklahoma City don’t happen without our neighbors stepping forward with donations and volunteer time.

Thursday’s community dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Norman High School, 911 W. Main. Sponsors are Food and Shelter Inc., the United Way of Norman, City of Norman, Salvation Army and Community Action of Central Oklahoma.

Volunteers are still needed. Donations can be sent to Food and Shelter Inc., Box 5537, Norman, 73070. More information is available by calling 360-4954, extension 103.

On Christmas Day, the 26th annual Norman Free Community Dinner, will be held at the high school cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Last year, Bob Magarian and his loyal crew served nearly 2,000 meals.

In Oklahoma City, the annual Red Andrews Christmas Dinner was temporarily shelved for lack of donations. The hat was quickly passed and the dinner’s back on.
