Norman — Editor, The Transcript:
Not only do Randy Terrill’s anti-immigrant proposals make Oklahoma seem cold-hearted, his actions also waste taxpayer dollars because they are needless and uninformed.
His bill to require school personnel to identify and count all illegal immigrant students is against the law. In 1982, the Supreme Court decided in Plyer v. Doe that public schools could not deny children access to a public education on the basis of their immigration status or engage in any actions that could deny these children a free public education. If Terrill is a law-abiding citizen, surely he will recall this bill. Perhaps then, he can find time as a legislator to promote education in our state and fund it adequately rather than encumber state schools with illegal and callous requirements.
