Great Plains has water loss

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink. It’s coming to those of us who live on the Great Plains. The plains of west Texas and Oklahoma are already in danger of drying up.

Over half of 100 trees that our neighbors and ourselves have planted in more than 40 years of living in east Norman are now dead. Stocked ponds are gone, and now our lakes are drying up. And yet we are surrounded by water.

Instead of spending our effort in space exploration, let’s figure out how to get the salt out of the huge oceans that surround us. If we can pipe the worst polutant known to man — oil — all over the world, then we can do it with fresh water from the ocean.

If we want peace and stabilty in the world, and a climate without any extremes, we can do it with God’s greatest gift — water. The Israelis and Saudis are doing it. Why not us?
