NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

Game days in Norman are colorful and oh, so exciting. So it was this past Saturday as OU took on the challenge of the Baylor Bears. The fly-by during the pregame was nothing short of thrilling. And the crowds erupted as the big, loud jets buzzed the field during our national anthem. Wow, does it get any better?

But the game quickly changed for me, as I began to get dizzy in my seat, 45 rows up and packed with excited, loud Sooner fans. I tried to deep breathe it away, but in to the second quarter, I was spinning and began to question whether I could get down the steps. I started down at halftime, hoping to slip away with my friends without causing a scene, but two wonderful big burly policemen kindly escorted me down the steps ( if you saw me, I really was not a fugitive), where I was met with a cart that whisked me and friends away to the Gomer Jones Medical Center at the stadium. The nurses there were so helpful and caring, while administering the proper medical steps. I ended up going to the hospital via ambulance and got more thrills on a Code 3 ride, complete with siren than I had really hoped for that Saturday.

The ER staff at the Norman Regional Healthplex were professional and compassionate, although they did reprimand me for drinking Red Bull prior to the game. They were most attentive and helped relieve my fears. The nursing staff, the housekeeping staff and the food staff were all cheerful and personable. And although all I really wanted was to go home, they provided humor and compassion throughout my brief stay.

Thank you to all who were in my path this past weekend — the staff at the stadium, the hospital employees and to my dear NAT team friends — I am thankful for good test results, but through this experience, I am reminded of the kindness of people. I feel so blessed to live in this great community.
