A little effort goes a long way with recycling

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

Four and a half years ago my wife and I moved to Norman from a town of 3000 in north central Oklahoma. The community we moved from did not offer a recycle program, so once a week we drove to Ponca City (34 miles round trip) to take our recyclables. When we mentioned to our neighbors that we did that, we were looked at as if we were from another planet.

When we moved to Norman we were very excited and grateful that the City of Norman offered curbside recycling, plus just a short distance to take our cardboard recyclables. A few days ago when we read in the Transcript that only 40% of our citizens took the time to use curbside recycling, we said to each other, how can that be?

Then we took the time to notice the number of recycle bins were put out curbside each week in our neighborhood. It averaged between 40 to 50% each week. How sad! How sad for our children, grandchildren and future generations that the citizens of Norman don’t care enough for our planet. Recycling is easy and simple.

If you, fellow citizens, want your children, grandchildren and future generations to live on a planet that is clean, litter free and pollution free, make an effort now. Recycling is but a small thing to start making that happen.
