Norman — The City of Norman’s curbside recycling program began two years ago this month. Residents pay a $3 monthly fee and can put plastic, aluminum and paper in the green bins. At last count, about half of all households participate.
So it makes sense that the youngsters in the community would go green, too. Some local Girl Scouts decided soccer players at Norman’s Griffin Park should get in on the action.
The trio of girls, working with the city and soccer park managers, have set up recycling bins at the field on East Robinson Street. They will empty the bins following weekend games.
It makes sense. Thousands of kids from Norman and else-where play on the fields and water bottles are the biggest source of trash. If it’s successful with soccer, city officials hope to expand it to the baseball and football leagues that call Griffin Park home.
