Norman — Editor, The Transcript:
Norman is a city graced by many beautiful trees. And yet our city lacks an ordinance to control tree pruning. The results can be seen along many streets where trees have been topped and in other ways improperly prun-ed. Improperly pruned trees are exposed to insect damage and diseases that can lead to the tree’s premature death.
Properly trained tree pruners know that topping trees leads to the premature death of that tree. They also know how to prune a tree to eliminate branches that might lead to the tree’s falling. Properly trimmed branches heal over thus preventing disease and the premature death of the tree.
The County Agent of City Forester can give advice as to correct pruning procedures. Brochures and pamphlets are available at the County Agent’s office located on East Robinson in the County Fair ground’s building. These pamphlets are free of charge and can be helpful to owners as to proper care of their trees.
When a tree pruner knocks on a home owner’s door offering to prune the trees that pruner should be licensed and well informed about proper tree pruning …
If a tree pruner offers to top a tree, this indicates he/she does not know how to do proper tree pruning!
