NORMAN — Merilyn J. Pope, 73, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, in Norman. She was born Jan. 25, 1940, in Norman to J Albert and Fannie Estelle (Johnson) Smith.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Havenbrook Funeral Home chapel, with interment following in the Denver Cemetery.
Merilyn worked for the Postal Service for 30 years. She worked as a computer programmer at the Postal Technical Training Center before retiring in 1998 as the postmaster in Verden. She enjoyed flower gardening, jig saw puzzles, researching geneology and sewing clothes for her family. She was the secretary/treasurer of the Denver Cemetery Association and a member of the 1st Families of the Twin Territories.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Burl Simpson and Bruce Simpson; one granddaughter, Sara Protiva; and one brother, Ronald Smith.
Merilyn is survived by one son, Berry Simpson and wife Gina of Norman; two daughters, Valerie Jury and husband Randy of Moore and Jacque Protiva and husband Jim of Norman; two brothers, Michael Smith and wife Kaye of Oklahoma City and Gordon Smith and wife Elaine of Edmond; nine grandchildren, Bryan, Jonathan, Amy, Levi, Amanda, Ashley, Cody, Shelby and Riley; and four great-grandchildren, Brock, Cooper, Rocky and Gabriella.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Arrangements for Merilyn and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home.
