NORMAN — Richard Lynn Slate, 59, of Harbor City, Calif., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in California.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Duncan, with Rev. Dan Standifer officiating.

Richard was born March 23, 1953, in Freeport, Texas, to Ralph L. and Janice (Motsenbocker) Slate. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1971 and continued his education by receiving his bachelor’s degree.

He was a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church and had been employed by the state of California as a welding inspector for the past 10 years.

Richard was preceded in death by his grandparents and a grandchild, Letha K. Louise Slate.

Richard is survived by his parents, Ralph and Janice Slate of Duncan; two children, John Slate and wife Angela of Duncan and Patricia Dunne and husband Miles of Lexington, Ky.; two brothers, Stephen Slate and wife Debrah of Norman and Dr. Dennis Slate of San Antonio; and a sister, Dana Brown and husband Kenny of College Station, Texas.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, as well as a fiancee, Olivia LeiLani Marquez.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the local Alcoholics Anonymous chapter.
