Rex Downing

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Rex Downing, 52, died of natural causes Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Journey Church, located at Interstate 35 and Tecumseh Road in Norman.

Rex was born Jan. 26, 1960, in Tulsa. Following his graduation, he was employed by an aeronautical contractor of the Department of Defense and was soon transferred to Adelanto, Calif., where he continued a successful career in aeronautics until relocating to Oklahoma in 2011 to assist with the care of his elderly mother.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ken Downing; and mother, Billye Downing.

He is survived by his son, Billy James Downing and wife Kara. Billy is a Marine currently serving in Afghanistan. Rex is also survived by his stepson, Caleb Tutt, and stepdaughter Brittany Tutt from California. Other survivors include his brother, Mike Downing and wife Melba of Dallas; his sister, Vicki Downing of Norman; his brother, Greg Downing and wife Kellie of Edmond; and their children and grandchildren.

He was actively becoming a member of Journey Church and volunteering for other community efforts. He was an excellent craftsman and worked with a variety of wood and stone materials. Rex died a friend of Bill W. In Rex’s life, no one was a stranger. He will be sorely missed.

Arrangements are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
