Shirley Sue Hopper Grove

NORMAN — Shirley Sue Hopper Grove, 76, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 39307 MacArthur in Shawnee.

Shirley was born in Shawnee and raised in Etowah. She attended the University of Oklahoma, where she received her bachelor’s degree in business administration and worked towards her master’s degree in accounting.

Before completing her thesis for her master’s degree, she married her husband, H. Blair Grove, who had been in the military stationed at Fort Sill at the time. They married and moved east to her new husband’s home of Huntingdon, Pa. They then subsequently moved to Somerset, N.J., where her husband started a new job. They retired and moved back to Norman in 1993.

Shirley was excited to receive her 50-year pin from the Eastern Star organization. She worked as a bookkeeper and for a CPA for a number of years. However, the work she enjoyed the most was working out of her home as a seamstress. She thoroughly enjoyed sewing professional-quality goods for family and her many customers.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, H. Blair Grove; their daughters, Karen Grove-Bird of Shawnee and Laurie Grove of New Jersey; their son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Maricela Grove of Germany; three grandsons Edward Bird of Shawnee, Jonathan and Alexander Grove of Germany; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Milly and Bob Smith of Medford and Peggy and Lanny Gardner of Norman.

A private burial service will be at a later date at Fairview Maguire Cemetery in Noble.

Arrangements are by McMahans Funeral Home.
