Dorothy E. ‘Dot’ Wiggins

NORMAN — Dorothy E. “Dot” Wiggins, 86, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in Norman after a brief illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with interment in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Norman. A prayer vigil will be 7 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born Nov. 3, 1926, in Norman to Joseph and Mary Bruehl. She attended Independence School. In the late 1940s, she married Harlin Sumner, of Norman, and was a homemaker and also worked outside of the home. Dorothy worked in the laundry business for Sumners Laundry and later for Clark Cleaners on Campus Corner. Then, she went to work for the University of Oklahoma, where she worked for many years in the Student Union Cafeteria on the serving line and was always a popular employee there.

Dorothy enjoyed going to various Oklahoma lakes fishing with her first husband, Harlin, and other relatives, and many years after his passing, she married James Wiggins in 1991. They enjoyed gardening and working around the home together after her retirement from OU. She always dearly loved OU football and basketball, and, in her later years, she would join in with other senior citizen friends from Norman and take day trips on buses to various local casinos for some enjoyment. She loved talking on the phone to her many friends and relatives and keeping up with their lives.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harlin Sumner; second husband, James Wiggins; parents, Joseph and Mary Bruehl; brothers John and Joe Bruehl; sisters Anna Feuerborn, Rosie Rhodes and Lucy Easley; and niece, Jean Taylor.

She is survived by her sister, Kay Halford and her son Ken of Norman, sister-in-law Evelyn Bruehl of Norman and her son Ted of Houston; brother-in-law, Elmer and Peggy Phillips of Norman, nephews John Easley and his sons Bret and Matt of Oklahoma City and Larry Feuerborn and his wife Robin of Norman; and niece, Shirlene Hand of Norman and her sons Michael Hand and his wife Rhose and Steve Hand and his wife Paula, all of Norman.

Pallbearers will be Larry Feuerborn, John Easley, Michael Hand, Steve Hand, Linda Shearer and Cathy Shearer. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Gary Ratliff, Dr. Neal McCollum, Ken Halford, Bret Easley and Matt Easley.

Donations in her name may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Arrangements for Dot and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
