NORMAN — David Pierre Brann, 66, passed away Sunday, October, 28 2012. He was born Oct. 16, 1946, to James Pearce Brann Sr. and Betty Jean Lambert Brann at Norman.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel.
He was a member of Goodrich Memorial United Methodist Church and the Oklahoma Teachers Association, a lifetime Sooner football fan and was loved by all who knew him.
David was a very special person. Even though he was born hydrocephalic and had other neurological complications, he never said “I can’t” or “why me.” He loved his family and was a caring and giving person.
His parents were told by all that he would not survive a year. David had brain surgery in 1947 to remove multiple cysts and tumors and to relieve pressure. He survived that surgery and another at the age of five and then again at eight. At the age of eight, he also became an inaugural member of a new educational service provided by the University of Oklahoma Department of Education called special education. He attended special education until he was 16 and then went to work at Goodwill Industries in Oklahoma City. He was determined to improve his work opportunity and, through his efforts and determination, he went to work for the University of Oklahoma Student Union and then the University of Oklahoma facility maintenance department. He earned multiple Employee of the Year awards and recognition for perfect attendance over a 25-year career.
Growing up in Norman, David learned to love Sooner football. Asked what he wanted for his birthday or for Christmas, his answer was always the same: anything Sooner related. He always wore Sooner attire and his watch had an OU face. Sooner born and Sooner bred!
David lived the last 15 years at Noble Health Care Center in Noble. There he received wonderful care and love from the staff for which the family will be forever grateful. During his recent illness, he also was cared for and loved by the Loving Care Hospice, also of Noble.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his brother James Pearce Brann Jr. of Overland Park, Kan.; and sisters Sharon Kay Simmons of Pearland City, Texas, and Karen Gay Smith of Satellite Beach, Fla.
