Ruthie Lee Armstrong

NORMAN — Ruthie Lee Armstrong, 76, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 in Norman, Oklahoma. She was born July 26, 1936 in Indian Creek, Texas to Mahlon Graves Perry and Hilva Tula Keeler.

She was united in marriage to Gary W. Armstrong on Sept. 21, 1955 in Indian Creek, Texas.

As a young adult Ruthie continued her education with a number of business classes before beginning a career with the Halliburton Company.

Later she joined the Rodman-Noel Oil Company, where she worked for a number of years before she and Gary moved to Oklahoma to start their family.

Ruthie played basketball in high school, which explained her passion for OU Football, as well as her love of Women`’s and Men`’s Basketball.

She enjoyed playing golf with Gary and being a long time member of The Trails Golf Club and its ladies`’ golf association. She was very giving of her time, having volunteered for over 40 years with the Norman Regional Hospital Women`’s Auxiliary.

Ruthie was an active supporter of the Assistance League of Norman and a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Long time Normanites will remember her involvement with the hospital`’s annual Red Stocking Follies fundraiser.

Ruthie loved her family and loved to travel. Every year she combined these two favorites with an annual family trip to Galveston, Texas for a week on the Gulf coast with Gary, the two girls and their husbands.

For many years a weekly highlight was Ruthie`’s Friday luncheon with her dear friend, Mildred Cella.

They always met at Legend`’s Restaurant where they had a standing reservation at the same table.

Ruthie is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gary W. Armstrong; their two daughters, Vicki Hunt and husband David of Oklahoma City, and Kristi Pate and husband John of Norman; her inlaws, Gail and Josie Armstrong of Norman, Don Armstrong Sharman Addy of Noble, Betty McBride of Kennedale, Texas, and Judy Perry of Fort Worth, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother Milton Graves Perry.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Assistance League of Norman, 809 Wall St., Norman, Okla. 73069.

Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 22nd from 11 to 8 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 at NorthHaven Church, 4600 36th Ave. NW in Norman, with a private interment following the service.

Arrangements for Ruthie and her family were placed in the care of the Vice Family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Online condolences may be made at www.havenbrookfuneralhome.com.
