Charlotte Nix Hagan

NORMAN — Charlotte Nix Hagan, 92, of Bedford, Texas, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Mrs. Hagan was the second of four children of Nellie Barker and Hulie Clayton Nix. She was born and raised in Logan County, W.Va. Mrs. Hagan graduated with honors from Marshall University in Huntington in 1942.

After graduation, she married William T. Hagan. During WWII, her husband served in the Army in New Guinea, and she returned to Logan County, where she taught school.

After the war, the couple moved to Madison, Wis., where Mr. Hagan earned a doctorate. They then spent 15 years in Denton, Texas, where Mr. Hagan taught at University of North Texas; 25 years in Fredonia, N.Y., where he taught at SUNY Fredonia; and finally 24 years in Norman, where Mr. Hagan retired from teaching at University of Oklahoma. In 2010, they moved to Bedford, Texas, to be near their two sons.

She was the heart of the family and is sorely missed.

Mrs. Hagan was preceded in death by her husband, William in 2011, and a son-in-law, Joel Ruffman.

Mrs. Hagan is survived by her four children, Tom Hagan and wife Marilyn, Martha Ruffman, Dan Hagan and wife Nancy and Sarah Esser and husband Wayne; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
