Marshall Lynn Etchieson

Long time Norman resident Marshall Lynn Etchieson died Saturday at Norman Regional Hospital following a short illness. Marshall was born May 9, 1927, in Dallas, Texas and moved with his family from the small community of Hickory, OK to Norman in 1943. He was preceded in death by his parents Ethard and Ruby L. Lynn Etchieson, brother Orel Etchieson, and sisters LaVern Denslow and Martha Jo Engle.

Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945, Marshall served in the European Theater of Operations with Headquarters, 3rd Infantry Division, Adjutant General's Section where he prepared correspondence and maintained personnel records. Upon release from active duty service Marshall returned to Norman High School where he met his wife of sixty years, Rossine Waddell Etchieson. Following their graduation they were married on August 1, 1947.

Marshall's career spanned forty-two years within the construction industry as a painter. At the time of his death he remained a member in good standing with the International Union of Painters and Allied Trade, District Council 88, Local Union 807. Following his retirement in 1989, Marshall enjoyed gardening and playing pool/billiards with his friends at Ole Blues where he will be missed. Other hobbies throughout his life included water skiing, boating, camping and fishing trips to Lakes Texhoma and Thunderbird.

Marshall will be remembered as a beloved husband and father whose gentle spirit, kindness, and willingness to give of himself to his family, friends, and beloved cats will be greatly and forever missed. He practiced perfection in all that he did and lived by the creed that anything worthwhile doing was worthwhile doing right. Additionally he placed a high value on friendship and always said, ... "you just can't have too many friends in life."

He is survived by his wife, Rossine of the home; his daughter, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Marcene Etchieson and son-in-law, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Robert Mull of Woodland Park, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews from Oklahoma, Texas, California, and South. Carolina.

His funeral is scheduled for 2 P.M., Wednesday, February 27 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Norman's LO.O.F. Cemetery.
