Joseph Richard "Dick" Roberts, 84, of Norman died Tuesday, June 12 in Norman. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 211 N. Porter Ave., with the Revs. Price Oswalt and Edward Menasco officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Norman. Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St. A prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman is handling arrangements.
Mr. Roberts graduated from Blytheville High School in Blytheville, Ark. In 1949, he graduated from St. Louis University with a degree in commerce and finance. He was a veteran of the Army-Air Force. He served as a eucharistic minister, reader and past parish councilmember of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Mr. Roberts married his wife of 59 years, Mary Elizabeth Bujarski, June 10, 1948, in Little Rock, Ark. The couple moved to Norman in April 1959 from Portageville, Mo., to begin selling the Dale Carnegie Courses. Mr. Roberts soon became the Oklahoma Dale Carnegie Franchise owner over 58 counties for 38 years. He instructed Dale Carnegie courses throughout the state of Oklahoma and consequently touched many lives in the process.
Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Nave Roberts and his father, Eutha Lee Roberts; and brothers Nick and Robert Roberts.
He is survived by his wife; 10 children Paul and Rosa Roberts, Martha and Ken Vass, Rick and Cathy Roberts, Anna Marie Forbes, Teresa and Bill Holt, Rob and Linda Roberts, Russ Roberts, Michael Roberts, Chuck Roberts, Greg and LaDeana Roberts and Mary Leal Roberts; foster children Curtis Faust and Corinne and Bill Blankenship; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
