Mary A. (Johnson) Nixon

NORMAN — Mary A. (Johnson) Nixon, 81, has passed away.

Graveside services were 11 a.m. Monday in Holly Springs Cemetery in Martins Mill, Texas.

Mary was born Nov. 21, 1930, to Ardis Garland Johnson and Minnie Merlene Faulk Johnson on a farm about seven miles east of Canton, Texas.

She attended Van Schools and was valedictorian for the class of 1948 at Martins Mill. She married Bill Nixon on July 17, 1954, at her parents’ home in Canton. She studied elementary education and taught Sunday School as long as she was able.

Mary loved the Lord and people, especially her family. She trusted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age, and everyone who met her said she was the sweetest woman. She enjoyed writing poetry and reading her Bible. Truly, she fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith. She was a wonderful sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and teacher.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harold Johnson and Ardis Johnson Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Nixon of Norman; daughters Susan Taylor and her husband Doug and Dana Nixon Moffer and her husband Tvlwv, all of Norman; brother, William Jerry Johnson and his wife Charlotte of Canton; sister, Janice Miller and her husband Jim Canton; and one grandson, Austin Taylor of Norman.

Memorials can be made to Bridges of Norman Inc., 1670 N. Stubbeman Ave., Norman, OK 73069, or Mission Norman, 2525 E. Lindsey St., Norman, OK 73071.

Arrangements were by Hilliard Funeral Home in Van, Texas.
