NORMAN — Jarold Lee Jones passed from this life Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, in Norman. He was born June 2 , 1950, in Oklahoma City to Jack L. and Norma J. Jones.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee.
Jerry had a distinguished 34-year career with the Air Force and Tinker AFB. He completed a degree in electrical engineering at OU while being a member of the ROTC in 1973 and joined the United States Air Force. After graduating from flight school, he became a B-52 pilot. After completing his military service, he began a career at Tinker as an electronics engineer for B-52s. In 1994, he was promoted to the position of system telecommunications engineering manager (STEM).
Upon retirement in 2007, Jerry became a weather spotter for the National Weather Service (NOAA) in Norman and volunteered as the frequency manager for University of Oklahoma home football games. He returned to Tinker as a contractor in 2010, where he worked as a senior systems engineer for the High Frequency Global Communication System (HFGCS) Command. He was currently working as senior systems engineer on the B-1B Bomber. He was highly regarded in his field of knowledge, which was vast and entailed world travel. Jerry was a HAM radio enthusiast and an avid OU football fan. Jerry was a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.
He was preceded in death by his father Jack L. Jones; mother, Norma J. Jones; his grandmother and step-grandfather, Georgia and Ralph Cooper; and his grandfather, Phillip “Sandy” Headrick.
He is survived by his loving family, sister, Jann and Randy McAlister; uncle, Ronald and Cheryll Thrasher; aunt, Josiane Jones; nephew, Benn and Desiree McAlister; nieces Janna and Grant Montgomery and Nikki and Patrick Amelotte; eight great-nephews and nieces; companion, Holly Hughes; stepsons Philip and Candace Smith and Leah, Mark and Kendal Smith and Charlee.
Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home.
