NORMAN — Dr. James Virgil Simmering, 83, formerly of Norman, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kan.
Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Hesston Mennonite Church with John Murray, pastor, officiating. Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Graber (Okla.) Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
He was born February 13, 1929 in Blackwell, OK, the son of August and Elsie Horchheimer Simmering.
He had served in the U.S. Army. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1955 and had practiced medicine for many years in Norman.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ira Simmering.
On Aug.10, 1952, he married Mary Lou Carpenter at Garber.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Simmering of Hesston; his children, John and Molly Simmering of Hesston, Nancy and Steve Millham of Wichita, James Hiram Simmering of Norman; a sister, Eunice Porter of Lawton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Hesston.
