NORMAN — Lois Ann Hawkins, 69, of Wayne, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Noble Health Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
Lois was born on March 4, 1943, in Lexington. She was the youngest of two children born to William Braskey Whitaker and Melba Juanita (Hickman) Whitaker. Lois grew up in Lexington and later moved to Purcell where she spent her high school years.
Soon after graduating in 1961, she married and had two children, Greg and Melody. Some years later, in 1973, Lois married Dennis Hawkins and together they made their home in Wayne.
Lois worked for 36 years at the McClain County Clerks Office. Before retiring in 2010, Lois served her last nine years as “the McClain County Clerk.”
Lois was a faithful and active member of Purcell Freewill Baptist Church for nearly 40 years. For many years she served as a Sunday school teacher for the 2- to 4-year-olds and taught children’s church. Throughout her life, she enjoyed sewing, embroidering, quilting, doing arts and crafts and working on her home. She also enjoyed decorating cakes for many years at Wright’s IGA in Norman.
She will be remembered as a hardworking and loving mother and grandmother. She loved to spend time with and spoiling her grandchildren. She also was a special sister and a wonderful aunt. She will be remembered as a wonderful friend to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by parents, Braskey and Juanita Whitaker; and granddaughter, Taylor Ann Brown.
Survivors include, two children, Greg Harris and wife Robin of Moore and Melody Brown of Wayne; brother, Harold Whitaker and wife Pat of Lexington; five grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Harris, Kori Renae Beckley, Brandon Gage Harris, Matthew Garrett Brown and Madison Paige Brown; uncle and aunt, Clyde and Laverne Hickman of Purcell; aunt, Betty Patty of Oklahoma City; three nephews; two nieces; many cousins; and a host of friends
