Melva Sue Gardner

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Melva Sue Gardner, 62, of Norman, passed away in her home Sunday, March 3, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. Melva was born Feb. 12, 1951, in Norman and was the youngest child born to Lester and Willie Mae Harmon.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Immanuel Baptist Church, with Rev. Ken Huddleston and Bervin Knott officiating. Burial will follow at Norman IOOF Cemetery.

Melva was a graduate of Norman High School and worked for NPS for several years. She married Larry Gardner on April 27, 1970, and he survives her. Melva and Larry raised two daughters, Jennifer and Angie. Both daughters graduated from Norman High and the University of Oklahoma. Melva was also the grandmother of five grandchildren.

Melva was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae Harmon.

She is survived by her father, Lester Harmon; brothers Jerry (wife Marilyn) and Bob Harmon; sister, Sharon Edmonds (husband Joe); several nieces and nephews; her husband, Larry Gardner; daughters Jennifer Burk and Angie Blackwell; and five grandchildren, Justin Burk, Jackson Burk, Abbie Blackwell, Tess Blackwell and Miles Blackwell.

The family wishes to thank friends, church family from Immanuel Baptist Church, Dr. Durica and her team, with special thanks to nurse Michelle, Heartland Hospice and the Sassy Sooner Red Hats for their continued love and support throughout Melva’s illness. Melva had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and had a belief that death is not the end, but the beginning of an eternity in heaven.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Primrose Funeral Service.
