Earl E. Hartman

NORMAN — Earl E. Hartman, 82, formally of Noble, now of Norman passed away Feb. 1, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 603 Classen Blvd., Norman, with the Rev. David Nehrenz and Vicar Aaron Uphoff officiating. Burial will follow at the Norman IOOF Cemetery.

He was born April 21, 1930, on the family farm east of Noble to Frank and Estes Meltabarger Hartman

He attended Rocky Point School, and was on the school basketball team of which he enjoyed.

He began farming the family farm at 16 after the death of his father while caring for his mother and two younger sisters.

He went on to be a local LP Gas Salesman for many years, finally retiring from the City of Norman in 1991.

He was married to Louise Garling Hartman for 50 years, marrying on May 27, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Norman.

In Mr. Hartman’s early years he was a member of Liberty and Maguire Baptist Church of Noble, being baptized in a farm pond near the family farm.

He joined Trinity Lutheran Church in 1956 after marrying Louise.

He faithfully served as an usher and served on the Board of Trustees during his 57 years of membership of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He also thoroughly enjoyed Square Dancing, being a member of Norman Silver Spur for 54 years and Newcastle Centennial Squares.

Earl was also active in Norman Dignity Memorial Lift. Family said he was a loving husband and father that enjoyed hunting, farming and gardening.

Mr. Hartman was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, one brother, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors include son Raymond Hartman and his wife Nancy of Norman; one brother Roy Hartman and wife Pauline of Norman; one sister Ellen Jones of Norman; one sister-in-law Pauline Hartman of Del City; one brother-in-law Edward Garling of Norman; two step grandchildren Rick and Bryan Noller of Kansas City, Mo.; three step great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen G. Lindsey, Earl’s doctor for more than 30 years, and Lifecare of Oklahoma during his last few weeks.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Mortgage Principal, 603 Classen Blvd., Norman, Okla., 73071.

Family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 4, 2013.

Arrangements for Earl and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
