Katherine A. ‘Kay’ Halford

NORMAN — Katherine A. “Kay” Halford died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in Purcell following a brief illness. She was born Nov. 20, 1928, to Joe and Mary Bruehl in Norman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

She was the youngest of seven children. As a young girl, she attended Independence Country School for one year, and when the family moved into town, she finished her education at St. Joseph’s Catholic School. She was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Early in her career, she worked for Sumner Laundry and later for Central State Hospital in the Laundry Department. She met the love of her life, Carl Halford, in 1947 and they were married in April 1948. She gave up her working career to have their son, Ken, and she was a full-time housewife and mother. They were married for 53 years until the death of her husband, Carl, in December 2001. In April 2006, she suffered a stroke, and at that time, her son, Ken, became her full-time caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; parents Joe and Mary Bruehl; brothers John and Joe Bruehl; and sisters Anna Feuerborn, Rosie Rhodes, Lucy Easley and Dorothy Wiggins.

She is survived by her son, Ken, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers for Kay are John Easley, Larry Feuerborn and Steve Hand. Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Norman Regional Hospital, Norman Specialty Hospital, Loving Care Hospice, Wadley’s Care Center, Doctors Park Pharmacy, Dr. Rosalie Lavon and Michael Hand.

A prayer service will be 7 p.m. today at Primrose chapel.

Services have been entrusted to the care of Primrose Funeral Service.
