NORMAN — Loretta Mae Stewart Hockman, 91, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012. She was the daughter of the late George Roland and Neva Pearl Phillips Stewart.
Loretta grew up in Carnegie and moved to Norman after high school. “Grammy Loretta, Mimi, Mother, Darling” was a loving gracious lady, a true lifter of our spirits with wisdom that enriched all the lives she touched. The beauty and light she brought into the lives of everyone she knew is the true example of how to live a life well. An angel on earth and now in heaven with her precious Ned.
Loretta was an extraordinary woman. She lived with great passion, humor and love and enjoyed spending it with her “Ned,” family and friends. She and Ned enjoyed a wonderful marriage full of love, adventure and commitment to each other. They were married 64 years. They were the “true love story,” and they were the strength that bonded their family together.
Loretta had a calm, steadfast demeanor that enabled her to help the many University of Oklahoma students that Ned taught. She worked tirelessly to help Ned’s students when they needed assistance with their course work and schedules. She was always willing, and actually preferred, to work in the background and let others receive the praise she so deserved. Her legacy of grace, love and caring for others her entire life will always be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles “Ned” Hockman.
She is survived by their daughters, Shiree Hockman Charles Bullen (Dale Bullen), Kyle Hockman Wiltse, her five grandchildren, Kelli Charles Ross, Kerri Charles, Marci Charles, Patrick Wiltse and Allyson Wiltse, and her three great-grandchildren, Peyton Ross, Cooper Ross and Chelsey DePriest. Her extended family includes Anna D’ Olive, Bobby and Chelle DePriest, Nell and Larry Taylor, Jenni and David Swain, Aidan and Dominic Swain, Matthew and Julie Taylor, Greta, Matthew and Grace Taylor and Julie and Dan Humphrey.

Ned and Loretta’s legacy, through this scholarship, will help support and serve the film/video journalism students at University of Oklahoma for many years to come.
A family service will be at Amelia Island, Fla., in the spring in celebration of Loretta’s life. At the same time, we will celebrate our Dad and their “fantastic” life together.
