Sandra ‘Sandy’ Hamer

NORMAN — Sandra “Sandy” Hamer, 66, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2012. Sandy was born Oct. 11, 1946, in Wapanukato to Wesley and Dessie Hamer.

Private family services are planned for a later date.

Sandy graduated from Del City High School in 1964, then received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oklahoma in 1968. Sandy began her professional career as an eighth-grade English teacher in the Carl Albert school system. After spending years as a mother and dedicated homemaker, she returned to school and completed her Master of Public Health, then returned to the work force in health care administration.

Sandy loved the arts and appreciated all artistic media. She had a keen sense of style — a fabulous wardrobe and home. She was an avid reader, worked the daily crossword puzzle and played in the same Tuesday Night Bridge Club for more than 30 years.

Collecting a multitude of friends over the years, Sandy enjoyed social outings, celebrating life’s milestones and any excuse to throw a good party. Sandy loved to travel and spontaneous adventures, including snow skiing, water skiing, hiking, watching a film and just being outdoors. Sandy believed celebrating every occasion was essential and that cooking fine food was an act of love for her family and friends.

Most memorable will be Sandy’s commitment to her family as a mother and grandmother. Sandy will be remembered as a loving and dedicated grandmother, “Cici.”

Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Wesley E. Hamer (Freck); and her stepfather, H.C. Judkins.

She is survived by her mother, Dessie Judkins of Norman; her brother, Wesley Hamer of Norman; her three children, Matthew Casper of Oklahoma City, Drew Casper and wife Susan of Tulsa and Ginger Maxted and husband Mark of Oklahoma City; and five grandchildren, Josephine and David Casper and Wesley, Wiley and Eleanor Maxted.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Side YMCA of Oklahoma City in honor of Sandy’s passion for youth sports.

Sandy will be forever remembered and always loved.
