Wilma Terry

NORMAN — Wilma Terry passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in Norman. She was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Paoli to Scott and Elsie Powell.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Resthaven Funeral Home chapel in Oklahoma City, with interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Her family had moved to Paoli from Tennessee and worked the family farm, where Wilma attended school and built many happy childhood memories with her brothers and sisters.

Eventually, her folks gave up farming and moved to Norman, where she was a proud member of the NHS graduating class of 1955. For much of her adult life, Wilma diligently and proudly worked at Security National Bank and then eventually Arvest Bank before retiring in the 1990s.

Shortly after high school, Wilma married her beloved Jimmy. Together, they proceeded to raise three boys in the little house on Hartman, attending many sporting events and band concerts. Wilma was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, and her family shares many fond and lasting memories of their times together.

During her remarkable life, and while holding a full-time job, Wilma unfailingly fulfilled her role as family caretaker, providing the love every family needs to grow and prosper.

Never once heard to complain, she was always present in the lives of her loved ones, providing just the right amount of care and support in the most gentle of ways with a hearty dose of humor.

Upon their final retirement, Wilma and her beloved husband, Jimmy, spent all of their time together, most notably by taking many road trips visiting family, friends and seeing the countryside.

She, like he, seemed to have a special fondness for the great Southwest and the beaches of North Carolina.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Terry; her parents, Scott and Elsie (McClellan) Powell; brothers Luther “Leo” and Scott “SC” Powell; and sisters Mary Ann Powell and Betty Lou (Powell) Chronister.

She is survived by three sons, Robert Terry and wife Carol of Norman, Richard Terry of Norman and Jim Terry and wife Sandy of Noble; and four grandchildren, Jarrod Terry and wife Miranda of Norman and Valerie, Jeffrey and Zachary Terry of Norman. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Marie Matthews of Lawton; brother-in-law, Richard Terry of Minco; brother-in-law, Joe Gilbert of Minco; and her sister-in-law, June Powell of Ormond Beach, Fla. Finally, she leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Resthaven Funeral Home.
