Joyce Alma Stevens

NORMAN — Joyce Alma Stevens passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012. She was born March 1, 1929, in Elgin to Caskey and Elsie Stevens.

A memorial service for Joyce will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church in Norman.

Joyce was an educator. She began her teaching career in 1954 and retired in 1985. She taught at Moore High School for seven years  (chemistry and biology) and in Norman Public Schools for 24 years (physical science).

Joyce was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, and she was a faithful and dedicated fan of the OU women’s basketball team.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Burl, Dale, Otis, Willis, Roy and Ross; sisters Mazie Burcham and Martha Zimmerman; and niece, Anita Karrow.

She is survived by nephews Larry Stevens and Steven Zimmerman; nieces Gloria Long, Carolyn Burcham, Clara Goddard and Sarah Zimmerman; and numerous great-nephews and nieces.
