NORMAN — Evelyn Self was born to Edgar Earl And Annie M. (Corley) West on July 29, 1940, in Phoenix. She passed from this life in Midwest City at the age of 72 .
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at McMahans Funeral chapel, with Pastor Paul Brown.
She grew up in Dibble and attended school there. On July 18, 1956, she and Mr. Bill Self were united in marriage at the McClain County Courthouse. Mr. Self was a career Navy man. They moved to California, where he would be stationed until his retirement, and they made their way home back to Oklahoma. They made their home in Lindsay before moving to Noble 18 years ago.
Mrs. Self was well known for her cooking. She would collect recipe books and try them all out on her family. She enjoyed embroidery work and feeding her hummingbirds and all other birds. She was a full-time homemaker, caring for her husband and two children; then the grandchildren started coming, and that was even better for her to enjoy. She loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and she lost her only son, Joe Allen Self, on July 3, 2007, and three sisters.
Those who survive her include her husband, Bill Self of 56 years; one daughter, Kim Michaud of Lexington; two sisters, Claudia McCalister and Tony Becker, both of Moore; six grandchildren, Brandon, Joseph, Zachary, Lane, Jennifer and April; two great-grandchildren, Caydence and Cienna; and other relatives and friend.
Interment willbe at a later date.
Arrangements are by McMahans Funeral Home.
