Dung Thi ‘Hai’ Sieber

NORMAN — Dung Thi “Hai” Sieber, 65, of Norman died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, in Fort Worth, Texas.

All services will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Norman. Vigil Prayer service will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the Daily Mass Chapel, in the Parish Life Family Center. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.

Hai was born April 03, 1947, and grew up in Vietnam. In 1973, she fled from Vietnam to the United States with her two oldest children, Tony and Vicky, to escape the hardships of war. She learned to speak English while working behind the bakery and deli counters of a grocery store in Oklahoma City. She persevered through many difficult times to ensure her children’s safety, and worked diligently so her children were always provided for.

Hai was married for 27 years to James M. Sieber, with whom she had two children. She lived in Norman from 1980 until her passing. Hai was a godly homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, and volunteering at her church and other community organizations. She enjoyed watching her children’s sporting events as they grew up, and treasured spending time with her grandchildren.

Hai was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Norman, where she was involved in the “Golden Agers” and “Women’s Guild” groups. She often spoke with high regard about the friendships developed with these groups of women. Our family is grateful for her community that brought her so much love and support.

She was preceded in death by her son, James Joshua Sieber.

Survivors include her son Tony and wife Stacie Sieber; daughter Vicky and hus band Mike Whitaker; son, Jason; and grandchildren, Chloe and Bryce Sieber; Gracy, Davis and Max Whitaker; and Abbi Sieber.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Hai’s honor to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Norman.
