Leo D. Snow

NORMAN — Leo D. Snow, 76, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, in Norman.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Emmaus Baptist Church, 16001 S. Western Ave. in Oklahoma City, with interment following in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Leo was raised in Guin, Ala. He excelled in athletics in high school and graduated in 1954 from Guin High School. After high school, Leo made his way to Oklahoma and married Fay in 1956.

Leo worked for Safeway, Goodrich Chemical and eventually Fleming Foods. In 1968, Leo went to work as a business agent for the Teamsters Local 886 and retired in 1991. Leo's primary focus during all 23 years at the Teamsters was serving and meeting members’ needs. Retirement afforded Leo time to do the things that he loved: serving other people, building and remodeling projects, playing golf and traveling with Fay. Retirement created opportunities to invest his time into the lives of others.

But the most significant event after retirement occurred in 1993 when Leo made a clear profession of faith in God and Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. He was baptized at this time as well. Leo deeply loved the Lord and his hope was in the Gospel alone. He knew he was a sinner and that Christ was a great Savior.

Leo loved the Lord, his wife, his family, the working man, children and anyone in need of help. He was a servant and daily lived for others. It was clear to all that Leo loved his wife and deeply valued his time with her. Leo never missed an opportunity to tell his children and grandchildren how much he loved them and how they made him proud. Those words are now more valuable than ever.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Ryan Finchum.

Leo is survived by his wife, Fay of the home; two sons, Phillip Snow and wife Anita of Norman and Michael Snow of Saussigmac, France; two daughters, Elizabeth Floyd and husband John of Bixby and Sharon Hunter and husband Bobby of Noble; brother, John Snow and wife Ann of Haven, Ark.; sisters Shirley Ross of Point Blank, Texas, and Patsy Burgess and husband Larry of Norman; seven grandchildren, Melissa McGuire, Lareah West and husband Brian, Naomi Snow, Bobbie Hunter, Phillip Snow, Preston Hunter and John Micah Floyd; and three great-grandchildren, Josh West, Caleb West and Abigail Scott.

The family suggests memorials be made to two organizations that were dear to Leo: OKC Compassion, 1121 N. Penn, Oklahoma City, OK 73107 (www.okccompassion.net), or City Cares WHIZ KIDS, 923 N. Robinson St., Ste 320, Oklahoma City, OK 73102 (www.whizkidsok.org).

The family will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Arrangements for Leo and his family have been placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.

Online condolences may be shared at www.havenbrookfuneralhome.com.
