Slaughterville close to getting Dollar General Store

By Jocelyn Pedersen

SLAUGHTERVILLE -- The town of Slaughterville has been approached by Dollar General to build a store there.

A request was made to the town council to rezone a parcel of land along Highway 77 across from the Old Town Country Store to be used as a retail site. The council met recently and approved rezoning.

The owner of the land and Dollar General Stores remain in negotiations on the sale of the property, officials said. There are many details to attend.

"We're now in a position for it to happen," said Marsha Blair, Slaughterville town administrator.

Blair said that once construction begins, the store will be completed in about 90 days. The store is slated to open in early 2010.
