Noble library assists job-seekers

NOBLE -- The Noble Public Library, 204 N. Fifth, offers a four-part series of programs designed to give those looking for employment some strategies and skills that could lead to success. The Job Hunting programs will be held on Thursday mornings in February from 10 a.m. to noon in the library.

"In this day and age many things seem to revolve around computers, including job hunting. The Noble library staff have been getting numerous requests to help customers in their job hunting endeavors. We hope these classes will help," said Nancy Chowning, Noble librarian.

All of the programs are free. Unless otherwise noted, participants who wish to use a library computer will need to sign up in advance. Those bringing their own WiFi-enabled laptop need not register in advance.

Registration may be done in person at the library, by phone at 872-5713, or by taking advantage of the online registration option on the events calendar at www.justsoyouknow.us/noble.

On Thursday, Feb. 4, Chowning will begin the series with "Job Hunting I: Setting Up an E-mail Account." Chowning will guide participants through the steps of creating and using a free e-mail service. Registration is required for library computer use.

Business owner and entrepreneur Connie Eckstein will present "Job Hunting II: Creating a Resume" on Feb. 11. Eckstein will assist participants in preparing an effective resume, based upon her experiences as both an employer and an applicant for jobs. Participants in this program are asked to bring their education and employment histories, references, and career goals. Registration is required for library computer use.

"Job Hunting III: Searching the Internet" will be Feb. 18. Jackie Kropp of the Computer Training Center of the Norman Public Library will help participants navigate online employment sites and services to find those that match the needs and the interests of the job hunter. Registration is required for library computer use.

The series will end with "Job Hunting IV: Preparing for an Interview" on Feb. 24. Using lecture, discussion and role-play, Louise Whitaker, training coordinator for the Pioneer Library System, will help participants be comfortable and effective in interview situations. No registration is required.
