Noble's senior class of 2010 is raising funds and planning a class trip to Six Flags over Texas amusement park. According to Jamie Evans, counselor and senior class sponsor, usually the day before school is out the seniors do something special.
"Typically, our students have an end of the year trip ... a senior send off type thing," Evans said. She and co-senior class sponsor Evan Boren work with students who can't afford to go on the trip.
"If they want to go," Evans said, "we make sure they can go through donations or other activities."
Seniors raise funds throughout the year by selling football game concessions, spirit items and T-shirts, hosting car washes, wrapping gifts over the holidays and promoting restaurant night at local eateries where a percentage of the night's proceeds goes to the school when designated by patrons.
Evans maintains that candy grams -- suckers decorated by holiday theme and sold for $1 -- are a popular item due to the affordable price and the fact that students can participate at school.
Senior dues of $25 pay for activities, a senior T-shirt, flowers and decorations for the graduation ceremony. Students must raise the money for their senior trip separately to cover admission, transportation and breakfast on the road.
"We charter buses to take the students to Six Flags," Evans said. "It's more of a special trip for them [than riding the school bus]. We stop somewhere and have breakfast along the way."
Sponsors are being sought to help with expenses. The seniors will receive a T-shirt to wear at Six Flags and the school is willing to work with sponsors to have their names appear on the shirt. For general information or for questions about sponsorship, call Evans at 872-3441.

Robber hits Noble bank
NOBLE -- A man carrying a pistol and a device he claimed was a bomb robbed the First Fidelity Bank at 900 N. Main at about 12:30 p.m. Friday.

A merchant who has property along Main Street was concerned about the use of the angled parking frontage between Chestnut and Cherry streets, fearing area employees who parked there were taking up parking opportunities for customers.

Historical society to meet
The Southern Cleveland County Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Noble library.
Discussion will be on the progress of the restoration of the old Noble jail and the way to best display and collect historical items. -
