NORMAN — Bobby and Mary Lee Gill will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 3.
They were married by the Rev. E.F. Hallock at First Baptist Church in Norman.
They both graduated from Norman High School. Bobby attended the University of Oklahoma and worked at Sooner Bowl and then as an assistant manager at TG&Y until going to work for Jack’s Service Co. of Oklahoma City. They then lived and worked in four states over the next 10 years before returning to Norman in 1972.
Bobby coached baseball and men’s and women’s softball teams at Reaves Park. He was on the board of directors of the Norman Softball Association where he helped supervise the running of the organization and softball fields for more than 30 years. He is on the state staff of the Oklahoma Amateur Softball Association and is a voting member of the national ASA organization. He has been inducted into the Oklahoma Softball Hall of Fame as a commissioner, for meritorious service, and received the Oklahoma ASA Lifetime Achievement Award. He and Mary Lee have volunteered at the Women’s College World Series (Bobby for 21 years), the World Cup of Softball and the Heartland Baseball Classic.
Mary Lee was a homemaker until they returned to Norman where she worked for the Norman Public Schools for 20 years before retiring in 2000. Following his retirement from Tinker Air Force Base, Bobby and Mary Lee bought Above and Beyond Travel where they worked until retiring in 2009. Bobby was on the board of directors of the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau for five years.
Bobby and Mary Lee have one son, David, who lives in Clermont, Fla., with his wife Melinda and daughter Kylee, and one daughter, Lori Longman, who lives in Norman with husband Michael. Lori and Michael have two daughters, Kendra (Fonso) Bowens and Ashley Longman (Rodney Fuller).
The couple have three great-grandchildren, Aarion and Keira Bowens and Rhealee Fuller.
The couple will celebrate their anniversary during a reception from 2-5 p.m. on Aug. 4 at Sooner Legends Inn and Suites, 1200 24th Ave. S.W.
