NHS girls roll late

Despite slow start, Tigers bury Southmoore

MOORE — It wasn’t pretty, but Norman High coach Matilda Mossman will take the Tigers’ 57-34 victory over Southmoore to run their record to 6-1 on the season.

Mossman had hoped to see a better outing from her squad, but she knows they all can’t be pretty.

“It was to our advantage that the game was sloppy, because we were the aggressors,” Mossman said. “As long as we were scoring layups off of it, it was fine.”

NHS led by four at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers’ lead quickly ballooned to double digits as they increased their defense pressure. The SaberCats didn’t handle it well and started turning the ball over.

NHS outscored Southmoore by 17 points in the second period to take a 35-15 advantage into halftime.

Southmoore (1-5) tried to counter by feeding Sidney Cook in the post. The sophomore battled against Jeannie Ramon and tried to keep her squad competitive. Before she was knocked out of the game early in the fourth quarter, Cook was giving NHS problems.

But it wasn’t enough to overcome the Tigers, who even on an off night were too much for the Cats.

Key led all scorers with 14. King added 13 while Ramon chipped in with 12.

Cook knocked in 13 and Rosa Meadows scored 9.
