EDMOND — Megan Johnson and Angelica Martinez both finished in the top 10 to pace the Norman High girls cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Wolf Run, hosted by Edmond Santa Fe Friday at Mitch Park.

The Tigers finished with a score of 109 to trail first-place Westmoore, Edmond Memorial and Edmond North. Norman North finished seventh.

Johnson finished the event in 12:49 with Martinez only one second off her pace. Kimmy Berry was 26th with a time of 13:25. Vanessa Richartz completed the course in 13:42 to take 34th place. Veronica Richartz was 36th at 13:45. Tammy Losson’s time of 14:13 took 43rd and Ellyn Jones grabbed 48th at 14:27.

“I was extremely pleased with the effort. I didn’t think we necessarily ran up to our capability, but I liked how hard they ran today,” NHS girls coach Suzy Rojas said. “We ran against the best in Class 6A today, and held our own. I like the path this group of girls is heading down.”

The NHS boys rode a second-place finish from Parker Bowles (16:44) to finish sixth.

Moore grabbed the team title followed by Edmond Memorial, Mustang, Edmond Santa Fe and Edmond North. Norman North finished seventh.

NHS’ Garrett Voss finished in 17:56 to claim 30th in the individual standings. Tanner Satterthwaite was 31st at 17:57. Landon Sagebiel ran in 18:18 to round up the Tigers’ top 40 finishers at 38th.

Al Maeder nearly cracked the top 40 at 18:41, but finished 44th. Robbie Fetter (18:43) was close behind at 46th. Chris Acker took 48th at 18:46.

“I thought the boys took another step in the right direction today. Considering the circumstances we were running with, I liked the heart they demonstrated,” NHS boys coach Bob Byers said. “This group is extremely hungry and really wants to take this program to another level.”

Both teams return to action Thursday at the OK Runner Classic, hosted by Norman High.
