OKLAHOMA CITY — It wasn’t long ago Westmoore was the top-ranked team in the western half of the state. But that was before Norman North paid Moore Stadium a visit. Things might have appeared back on track after an easy victory over Choctaw but Thursday night put that in question … or announced to the state just how tough District 6A-2 happens to be this season.
Playing No. 8 Putnam City, the seventh-ranked Jaguars gave up a touchdown pass with 1:42 remaining to ruin what had been a second-half comeback.
The Jaguars dropped to 3-2 (1-1 District 6A-2) while the Pirates remained perfect at 4-0 (2-0).
After Putnam City led 10-7 at the half, Westmoore took the lead back with a 9-yard touchdown run from Craig Ralls.
That was Ralls second score of the game. His 26-yard run in the second quarter brought Westmoore within 10-7 after Sam York’s point-after.
Westmoore got after things on the ground, picking up 214 yards, 107 more than the Pirates. Still, the Putnam City defense did its job.
All those yards came on 47 carries, while Westmoore did almost nothing through the air, picking up just 15 yards on 1 of 7 passing. Tracey Norwood completed just 1 of 6 passes, while throwing two interceptions.
Meanwhile, Putnam City was balanced, getting 147 yards in the air to go with 107 on the ground.
Ralls led the Jags with 126 yards on 17 carries. Stephen Davis added 36 on seven carries.

Cats tame Tigers
MOORE — Coach Wes Clark didn’t want the game to turn into a track meet. He believed Norman High had a shot to knock off Southmoore if he could slow the game down to a crawl.
The strategy worked … for a quarter. But after Southmoore’s athletes were unleashed, they cruised past the Tigers 59-36 Tuesday. -
Bombers too much for North girls
MIDWEST CITY — Do the Norman North girls belong near the top of the Class 6A rankings?
Tuesday night, at least until the last six minutes, the Timberwolves certainly made their case.
Then it all fell apart. -
NHS battles, but North rules mat
Norman North, as expected, claimed Tuesday night’s mat edition of the Crosstown Clash.
Yet, getting past the Tigers by the slim margin of 42-31, it might have been Norman High coach Bo Maynes who exited the NHS Gym with the bigger bounce in his step. - More Local Sports Headlines
