Fire destroys two mobile homes

By Meghan McCormick

A fire Thursday afternoon in far eastern Cleveland County consumed two mobile homes, according to the Little Axe Fire Department.

Little Axe Fire Chief Allen Snider said the blaze was reported about 2:30 p.m. Thursday at 19700 Cornell Drive.

"It's about a mile from the Pottawatomie county line," Snider said.

He said the fire's cause hasn't been determined yet. However, the blaze isn't considered suspicious.

"We figured out it started around the master bathroom," he said.

The fire claimed one structure and then spread to a connecting trailer, according to Snider.

He said firefighters spent two hours knocking down the blaze. High temperatures made extinguishing the flames difficult.

There were no reports of injuries, he said. Five people were reportedly living in the mobile home. Snider did not have the names available Friday.

"When units responded, there were reports of three people unaccounted for," Snider said. "We later found out they were in town."

Snider said fire personnel from Little Axe, Cedar Country, Norman Fire Department Stations 5 and 6 and Oklahoma City Fire Stations 28 and 36 all responded to Thursday's fire.
