Deadline for trash poster contest extended

Transcript Staff

The deadline for the 19th annual Trash Poster contest sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has been extended to Wednesday.

The contest is a chance for students to show off their talent, win cash and help Oklahoma "Keep Our Land Grand!"

County winners will receive a certificate, state winners will receive $100 to $250 cash awards at a ceremony in April. Winning posters will build the 2011 Trash Poster calendar.

Teachers of the 12 state winners will receive $50 to $100 to purchase classroom art supplies.

All students attending school in Oklahoma, kindergarten through 12th grade, are eligible. Students need to draw an original slogan and art on a 12 by 18 or 11 by 17 inch paper or poster board only.

No syndicated, copyrighted, clipart images, computer aided or copy-machine entries are eligible.

Judges suggest students use good lettering, high contrast and bright colors. The poster should be artistic, positive in approach and focus on solutions to Oklahoma's litter problems.

Students in Cleveland County can send their posters to The Purcell DEQ, 1420 Chandler Road, PO Box 549, Purcell, OK 73080-0549, or The Oklahoma City DEQ office, 707 N. Robinson St., PO Box 1677, Oklahoma City, OK 73101-1677 no later than Wednesday.

For more information, call the Purcell office at 527-8738 or Oklahoma City at 702-6100.
