Rotary picks students of the month for Feb.

NORMAN — Hong Jeon and Mark Haley have been chosen as Rotary students of the month for February by the Norman Rotary Club.

The two attend lunch meetings with the club and are eligible for a year-end scholarship.

Haley, a Norman North senior, has a 4.0 grade point average. He is the son of Stephen and Margot Haley, of Norman.

With four other students, he attended a month-long school in Salamanca, Spain, studying Spanish and living with a local family. He plans to major in engineering with a minor in Spanish.

At Norman North, Haley is a leader on the robotics team and is a member of the Oklahoma and National Honor Society, as well as the National Spanish Honor Society, the Spanish Club and Mu Alpha Theta, and plays the trumpet in band.

He has volunteered with his church, the Food Bank, United Way and other organizations. Haley is considering the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Texas. His career plans include engineering and service in the Peace Corps.

Jeon, the son of Kyong Ae and Dahee Jeon, is a 4.0 GPA senior at Norman High School. He is active in varsity track, debate, Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club and the Academic Quiz Bowl team and is president of his class.

He participates in We the People and National History Day and is an AP Scholar.

Jeon was 2012 NHS Prom Prince. He also is an animator with work on Youtube.

His volunteer activities include a research intern at OU, Norman Public Library and helping organize the annual Monty Python Speech and Debate Tournament.

He plans to attend Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
