Sarkeys Foundation grants total a little under $1M

NORMAN — The Sarkeys Foundation has announced grants totaling $994,867 to 34 nonprofits in Oklahoma. Since 1962, Sarkeys has awarded more than $75 million in grants. Nonprofits can complete one of two grant applications for amounts of $10,000 and below or more than $10,000.

Grants awarded at the end of 2012 were:

The Grace Center of Southern Oklahoma, Ardmore, shower, washer and dryer for the Day Center, $10,000; American National Red Cross, Tulsa, disaster response in southeast Oklahoma, $10,000; Bethesda, Norman, computers, hard drives, monitors, printers, server and back-up drive with software to run and transfer data, $25,000; Calm Waters Center For Children and Families, Oklahoma City, grief support groups, $25,000; CASA of Oklahoma County, Oklahoma City, support to recruit community volunteers to represent the best interest of abused and neglected children, $35,000; Center of Family Love, Okarche, dining room renovation, $50,000; Child Abuse Network, Tulsa, specialized program equipment, $18,043; Christmas Connection, Oklahoma City, School Connections school uniform program, $6,500; Community Literacy Centers, Oklahoma City, three new classes and partial salary for a coordinator for the LEAP program, $24,183; Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa, Tulsa, Updating 2-1-1 information in eastern Oklahoma communities, $30,000; Council For Developmental Disabilities, Norman, insulation and ceiling tiles, $10,000; East Central University Foundation, Ada, Rudolph Moot Courtroom, $50,000; Family Promise of Shawnee, furnishings for family day center and roll-away beds, $17,956; Freedom School Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City, books, classroom supplies and breakfast for children for the summer literacy program, $9,840; Health Outreach Prevention Education, Tulsa, “Empowered 4 Life-Making Thoughtful Choices” project for young adults ages 13 to 29, $12,000; Heartline, Oklahoma City, chat program for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, $30,345;36; Legal Aid Services Of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, legal check-up clinic for the homeless, $50,000; Madill Community Day Care Center Association, Madill, classroom renovation to be named the Prudence Little Classroom, $35,000; Ministries of Jesus, Edmond, discounted medical tests and surgeries for Oklahoma City area patients who are uninsured with little or no means to pay; $50,000; Muskogee County Child Advocacy Center, expansion of family/victim advocate program, $10,000; Norman Alcohol Information Center, addiction treatment for adults, adolescents and families, $20,000; Neighborhood Services Organization, Oklahoma City, Housing + Healthcare = Hope capital campaign to build a new dental clinic and administrative services facility, $50,000; OKC Metro Alliance, Oklahoma City, study room furniture, beds and appliances for a residential recovery program, $18,500; Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation, Oklahoma City, Patient Navigation and Counseling Services for Uninsured Brain Tumor Families, $10,000; Oklahoma City University, educational equipment for nursing school, $50,000; Oklahoma Community Health Services, Oklahoma City, increasing access to care for the uninsured and underinsured, $50,000; Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy, Oklahoma City, Fighting for Our Future: Stories Matter!, $32,500; Oklahoma Lawyers for Children, Oklahoma City, expanded outreach for children, $40,000; A Pocket Full of Hope, Tulsa, UpBeat 360 Program, $10,000; Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, school pantry program, $25,000; San Miguel School of Tulsa, HVAC, fire suppression and monitoring, security fence, $50,000; Special Care, Oklahoma City, scholarship support, $50,000; Stand in the Gap, Tulsa, program expansion for Life Launch, Women in Transition and Widows, $50,000; and, the Urban Mission, Oklahoma City, food for the pantry, $30,000.
