NORMAN — Mayor Cindy Rosenthal will be the featured speaker at the Tyner Cornbread and Beans Luncheon on Friday Feb. 1, 2013 inaugurating the 2013 season of the luncheon.
Rosenthal will review the accomplishment of the City of Norman over the last two years. She is Norman’s first popularly elected woman mayor and is running for her third term this spring.
In 2009 she won the Distinguished Public Service Award, which is given annually by the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration to a public servant whose career exhibits the highest standards of excellence, dedication and accomplishment.
She is director and curator of the Carl Albert Congressional Research and Studies Center at the University of Oklahoma and professor of political science with a joint appointment to the women’s studies faculty.
The luncheon will be held at Catering Creations, 3750 W. Main and is sponsored by the Cleveland County Democratic Party.
Lunch begins at 11:15 a.m. with the speaker beginning about noon. Guests will select lunch from Catering Creations’ mini-buffet. The meeting is open to the public.

The City of Purcell and the Purcell Parks & Recreation Dreams Team has scheduled a public meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan 29 in the Purcell City Council Room at the Police Department Building, 1515 North Green Avenue. A plan for a Recreational Trail around Purcell City Lake will be presented. Any Purcell citizens interested in viewing the proposal to understand the design, ask questions and provide their comments are encouraged to attend.
The Plan, with consideration of the public comments gathered at this meeting, will be submitted to the Oklahoma Parks / Tourism and Recreation Department for a grant application. The funding to Oklahoma originates from Federal Highway Administration support provided for the Recreational Trails Program.
The Purcell City Council selected the Parks & Recreation Dreams Team from a cross-section of the community, representing the business, social services, education and government to make sure a variety of perspectives are considered. They all share the desire for Purcell to be continually improving as a great place to live.

Vested by Congress with the responsibility for administration of the Smithsonian Institution, the Board of Regents is made up of the chief justice of the United States, the vice president of the United States, three members of the United States Senate, three members of the United States House of Representatives, and nine private citizens.
A former college instructor in history and politics, Cole holds history degrees from Grinnell College (B.A.), Yale University (M.A.), and the University of Oklahoma (Ph.D.).
