NORMAN — Emily Soreghan, of Norman High, and Morgan Wardlow, of Norman North, have been named Norman Rotary Club students of the month for January.
The two attend weekly luncheons hosted by the Norman Rotary Club at the First Christian Church. They are eligible for a year-end scholarship.
Soreghan, the daughter of Michael and Gerilyn Soreghan, of Norman, has a 4.0 grade point average. In her application, she said she is most proud of her involvement with the Norman Ballet Company. She has danced in every performance and has solo dances.
“The artistic director of the company is having me teach ballet to the beginners, run rehearsals for productions and help organize community outreach — but the payoff is enormous. Learning how to teach and serve as an example is both incredibly humbling and the best feeling in the world,” Soreghan wrote.
She is active with the Rotary Interact Club, the Vegetarian Club, the National Honor Society, the French National Honor Society, the Green Society, Global Awareness Club, Mu Alpha Theta, the Norman Ballet Company and the Catholic youth ministry.
Soreghan is active in ballet, chorus, piano and orchestra and was accepted into the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute, the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and the Miami City Company for ballet summer programs.
She has volunteered at the Norman Public Library, Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, Secret Santa and the Norman Ballet Company. She is considering attending the University of Oklahoma, Stanford, the University of California at Berkeley, Pomona College, Reed College or Indiana University.
Wardlow, the daughter of Chris and Kay Wardlow, of Norman, has a 3.844 grade point average. She is most proud of her membership and leadership on the Norman North fastpitch softball team.
“As a freshman, I earned the starting pitcher position on the varsity team,” she wrote in her application. “This experience showed me that even though I was the youngest player on the field, I could still be a leader.”
She was injured the summer before her junior year and was unable to play that season but still attended practice and games.
“I fought back through physical therapy and intense conditioning, once again earning back my spot as starting pitcher my senior year,” she wrote.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, Teen Volunteers, Teen Advisors of Norman, the Norman Youth Council, the Norman North Link Crew and Distributive Education Clubs of America.
She received the Norman North Fastpitch Softball MVP award, was honorable mention for All Conference Fastpitch Softball and was the Norman Athletic Association’s Outstanding Female Athlete Award. She has been listed on the honor roll each semester of high school and has been selected for 4REAL and Tomorrow’s Leaders.
Wardlow has volunteered with Special Olympics, the Josh Heupel Foundation, reading to children, Stuff the Bus, Operation Christmas Child with Bethel Baptist Church, Mu Alpha Theta, Bridges and CCFI and has helped host foreign students for Thanksgiving dinner.
She plans to play softball at Seminole State College. If her back injury does not allow her to play softball, she will consider attending OU or Oklahoma Baptist University. She would like to work as a police officer.
