Troop 2142 arrives at the National Jamboree

NORMAN — On July 22, at 6 a.m, a sleepy Troop 2142 took off from Will Rogers World Airport to Houston, Texas, to transfer to Pennsylvania. Once we landed in Texas, we bought snacks, walked around, played cards, and anything else that can waste time. We then took the plane to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and landed at around 2 p.m.

At the beginning of our trip, we visited many museums and memorials. I really liked the memorials and museums, but some of my favorites were the National Constitution Center, because it was very interactive and high-tech.

We then took a 2-hour bus ride to Washington, D.C. Over there, I enjoyed the Air and Space Museum, and I loved it because there were a large variety of exhibits on display about aviation. The World War II memorial really captured the meaning and seriousness of the war. The Washington Monument was very fun because you can see all over Washington, D.C., and see the hollow area inside of the monument. It was a great four days. Our troop then headed to Fort AP Hill, Virginia, the site of the Jamboree.

On July 26, at 10 a.m., Troop 2142 arrived and began setting up camp at Fort AP Hill. Fort AP Hill was open, breezy and hot. Setting up was long and hard, but 5 hours later, we got camp entirely set up. We ate dinner, which consisted of pulled pork, beans, and Rice Krispies treats for dessert. After we ate and cleaned up, we all went to take a shower and drift off into sleep.

I can’t wait to write again, and I wonder what the rest of the celebration is going to bring us. All I know is that there are going to be a lot of amazing performances and fun events.
