NORMAN — The Max Westheimer Airport expects a busier than usual weekend of landings and takeoffs with the arrival of Notre Dame and Oklahoma fans.
“We’re getting ready,” said Walt Strong, airport director.
“There are some teams that have a following that is much greater than others. Nebraska, Oregon, Alabama. When those teams come to play, there’s a lot of corporate activity,” said Strong, who came to the airport in 1998.
Strong said the fixed base operator which services the aircraft in Norman has been receiving a number of calls from pilots with rental car requests and other questions.
He said the airport recently completed a 25 by 135 section of pavement in time for the busy weekend. Additionally with the late kickoff time, Strong worked with the FAA to ensure the tower stays open an extra two hours until midnight Saturday.
“We are preparing to get all kinds of corporate activity. We plan to see quite a bit more,” Strong said.
He expects more private jets and chartered planes to arrive today and Saturday. Some will leave immediately after the game and the tower’s late presence will be helpful to them, he said.
