Welcome to city, Fighting Irish

NORMAN — Norman, Okla., is pleased to roll out the welcome mat and provide a warm Boomer Sooner howdy to University of Notre Dame fans this weekend. Welcome to our community, which combines small-town friendliness with big-city amenities.

Our communities share much in common. We are both home to great universities with extraordinary sports traditions.

Both South Bend and Norman know what it means to celebrate national championships on the field, and we are similarly proud of the academic excellence in the classroom. Both South Bend and Norman tout great parks, a downtown arts and cultural district, low crime rates, affordable housing, positive spirit and great hospitality.

While you are in Norman, I invite you to wander off campus and experience our great restaurants, vibrant downtown music venues, state-of-the-art National Weather Center and world-class museums such as the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.

By the way, we certainly would not object to having you buy some extra souvenirs and merchandise during your visit to Norman. We have some great shopping areas on Campus Corner, at Sooner Mall and University North Park.

Come Saturday evening, you will know why Norman has the distinction of a No. 3 ranking by Forbes Magazine among the nation’s best college sports towns. Game day is serious fun, and we hope you enjoy the camaraderie of our great community.

Welcome, Fighting Irish and the Leprechaun Legion!
