John Johnson, director of the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments, (ACOG) addressed county commissioners Monday asking for $5,000 to establish an economic development district for central Oklahoma (EDA).
Johnson said he was asking Oklahoma City and the four counties, Cleveland, Canadian, Oklahoma and Logan to become partners and match a $150,000 grant from the EDA. Oklahoma City has agreed to give $50,000, ACOG and the four counties will give $5,000 and $75,000 in in-kind services.
Central Oklahoma needs to become an economic development district to apply for grants and get certain funding, Johnson said.
Once established, each county will oversee their own grants.
ACOG is the only COG in the state that is not designated an economic district.
In other business, commissioners approved a claim of $1,100 for the bridge over Spring Creek, approved the allocation of alcoholic beverage tax of $42,266.79 and accepted the November report for Sheriff Joe Lester in the amount $4,068.
