Star party planned at Washington Elementary

The Norman North Astronomy Club and astronomy classes are hosting a star party from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Washington Elementary School.

The theme for the party is "Legends of the fall sky and then some." Participants will learn how to use a planisphere, experience telescope viewing of the night sky and see the fading summer triangle. Faculty and students will be available to give tours of the late fall and early winter constellations and planets.

Participants are asked to bring a flashlight and encouraged to dress in layers. The club will provide red balloons for preserving night vision.

Those with telescopes that are interested are asked to e-mail eileeng@norman.k12.ok.us.

Because astronomy events are dependent on the weather, a inclement weather day is scheduled for Dec. 14. Questions concerning inclement weather can be sent to the above e-mail address.
